Discharge/Loan Forgiveness
- In the case of death of the borrower
or student (in the case of PLUS loans), the loan may
be forgiven.
- Forgiveness may be granted in some cases
of bankruptcy.
- This may also apply if the borrower is
totally and permanently disabled, as defined in the
law, based on a physician's certification.
- Forgiveness may also be granted if you
were unable to complete your program of study because
your school closed or your school falsely certified
your eligibility.
- You may also qualify if your school did
not pay a refund of your loan money that it was required
to pay under federal regulations.
- You may also qualify if loan was falsely certified
as a result of a crime of identity theft.
- Certain teachers and child care providers may also
qualify for loan forgiveness.
